FIRST Steps Rifle Orientation
Students take this course to receive a hands-on orientation to the safe handling of one specific rifle action type. This course is at least 3 hours long and consists of 4 students or less. Students will spend time in the classroom and at the range.
Learning objectives include:
- NRA’s rules for safe gun handling,
- the particular rifle model parts and operation,
- discussion of ammunition,
- shooting fundamentals,
- cleaning the rifle, and
- continued opportunities for skill development.
Course materials include:
- NRA’s Basics of Rifle Shooting handbook,
- NRA’s Gun Safety Rules brochure,
- Winchester/NRA Marksmanship Qualification booklet, and
- FIRST Steps Course completion certificate.
