Students take this course to receive a hands-on orientation to one specific shotgun model.  The course is at least 3 hours long and takes place in the classroom and at the range.  Class size is limited to 4 or fewer students.

Learning objectives include:

• NRA’s rules for safe gun handling,
• the particular shotgun model parts and operation,
• discussion of ammunition,
• shooting fundamentals,
• cleaning,
• and opportunities for further skill development.

Course materials include:

• NRA’s Basics of Shotgun Shooting handbook,
• NRA’s Gun Safety Rules brochure,
• NRA/Winchester Marksmanship booklet, and
• a FIRST Steps course completion certificate.
