Basic Shotgun Shooting

Students take this course to learn how to properly utilize a shotgun to shoot a moving target.  This course is at least 10 hours long and takes place in the classroom and at the range.

Learning objectives include:

  • NRA’s rules for safe gun handling,
  • shotgun parts and operation,
  • shotgun shell components and malfunctions,
  • shooting fundamentals,
  • range rules,
  • shooting at straight away and angled targets,
  • cleaning, and
  • continued opportunities for skill development.

Course materials include:

  • NRA’s Basics of Shotgun Shooting handbook,
  • NRA’s Gun Safety Rules brochure,
  • Winchester/NRA Marksmanship Qualification booklet,
  • the Basics of Shotgun Shooting examination, and
  • a course completion certificate.
